The City of Hanford is looking to annex four separate county islands into the city limits, and hopes the city council will approve the initiation of the annexations on Tuesday evening. If approved, a combined total of 197.15 acres would become part of the city.
Islands 9, 12, 13 and 14, as titled by the city, are substantially surrounded islands, meaning the land around them already belongs to the city. Per a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the city and Kings County, the islands must be annexed into city limits. The annexation of the islands is also necessary for several city projects.
