Fontana school police receives safety grant

The Fontana School Police Department received a $34,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. This funding will fuel a department initiative to improve safety outcomes for student pedestrians and cyclists in the Fontana Unified School District.

The grant will facilitate funding toward educational presentations, free helmet provisions, bicycle rodeo demonstrations and increased road signage at select district schools. The funding period for this grant will last from November to August of next year.

“Most of this grant will support education initiatives, equipment and salaries,” said Fontana School Police Department Chief Carlo Granillo. “We’re looking at the educational component. These presentations will go over safety protocols for student pedestrians, vehicle traffic and information on bicycle safety among the student population…
