Georgia Winter Storm Watch: Heavy Snow, Freezing Rain Could Disrupt Travel Friday and Saturday

Peachtree City, GA – A winter storm watch has been issued for much of north and central Georgia, with snow, ice, and freezing rain expected starting Friday. This system could bring significant travel disruptions along major roadways like I-85 and I-20.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City, snow is likely Friday morning, transitioning to a wintry mix in the afternoon and evening. Areas north of Atlanta could see up to 7 inches of snow, while central Georgia faces a heightened risk of icy conditions, with up to 0.1 inches of ice accumulation. Hazardous travel conditions are expected to worsen during the Friday evening commute.

Temperatures will hover in the low 30s, with freezing rain likely to create slick roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel and to prepare for potential power outages caused by ice-laden trees and power lines.
