Portions of northeast Georgia, Piedmont and Western North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina are currently under a winter storm warning by the National Weather Service .
The warning, which replaced an earlier winter storm watch, is in effect from 7 a.m. Friday through Saturday morning.
Heavy mixed precipitation is possible with the coming snowstorm, with mainly snow expected across the mountains and north of the I-40 corridor, where total accumulations of 2 to 8 inches with locally higher amounts are possible.
