Optimism abounds for Gary schools as it returns to local control

As the Gary Community School Corp. returns to local control for the first time in seven years on Monday, district officials, local legislators and state leaders are hopeful for the district’s future.

“We have high expectations for our children to achieve their best and they in turn deserve ours. The financial independence of the school district is proof that the leadership is committed to a better future and the success of the schools means the success of students,” said Gov. Eric Holcomb in a press release on Friday.
