‘Overwhelming evidence of a juror having committed misconduct:’ Ashley Benefield’s attorney addresses motion for juror interviews

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – On Monday, Judge Matt Whyte ordered all six jurors in the Ashely Benefield case back to the courtroom for interviews. According to Neil Taylor, Benefield’s attorney, the judge has set a date of Oct. 4 for the interviews.

This comes nearly two months after Benefield was convicted of manslaughter for the shooting death of her husband, Doug Benefield, back in 2020. Benefield did claim self-defense and used Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. Her defense team is now arguing alleged juror misconduct which included allegations that one juror had a cell phone in the jury room.
