Lost Florida cat ‘Flounder’ found in surprising spot after weekend search

The Brief

  • Flounder the cat disappeared over the weekend, only to be found hiding under his owner Melissa Lynch’s car near a Dollar General.
  • Despite attempts to lure him out with tuna, Flounder’s stubbornness required help from police and public works crews, who lifted the car to rescue him.
  • Lynch, grateful for the community’s efforts, called the experience a reminder of the power of small acts of kindness during the holiday season.

INDIAN HARBOR BEACH, Fla. Flounder the cat proved his knack for adventure — and hiding — when he vanished over the weekend, only to be discovered in an unexpected place.

Melissa Lynch, Flounder’s owner, scoured her neighborhood for days, even enlisting the help of her dog during nightly runs. The 14-pound feline’s whereabouts remained a mystery until Lynch stopped by a nearby Dollar General and heard a familiar sound: meowing from under her car.

“I went inside, got a can of tuna to try and lure him out. Of course, he’s incredibly stubborn,” Lynch explained.
