Some safety solutions for Brightline
How many more deaths need to occur by the Brightline train, before it will add some more safety features to the system from Miami to Orlando?
I have suggested:
- 24/7 real-time video cameras like those on Interstate 95 and Florida’s Turnpike.
- 5- to 10-foot chain-link fencing along the whole route, along both sides of the train tracks.
- Sensors at every grade crossing so the train engineer will know something is on the railroad tracks.
- Overpasses for pedestrians over the railroad tracks in urban areas.
If some of these safety features were installed before the Dec. 28 firetruck crash, the first and third items above would have been helpful to lessen the effects of the crash.
