GOLIAD, Texas – The sale of the Fannin Memorial Monument sees another delay as the Goliad County Commissioners seek further information from the Texas Historical Commission and the residents of Goliad.
At the March 11 Commissioners Court meeting, the court decided the monument would not be sold until the commissioners could hear public opinion through town halls. There were no town halls in between meetings as the court desired to hear from THC before moving forward with public comments. The commissioners also hoped to create a committee lead the discussion and represent the residents’ wishes as the process moves forward.
At the March 24 Commissioners Court meeting, representatives from the Texas Historical Commission gave a report and answered questions from the commissioners. Executive Director Joseph Bell stated the agency’s hope to partner with the community and make decisions that align with its residents’ priorities.
