VISD approves motion to proceed with health center

The Victoria Independent School District (VISD) Board of Trustees voted Thursday to approve a motion allowing the application of a grant to establish a school-based health center. The health center would provide pediatric care to all children in the community, including those who do not have access to a healthcare provider.

The Community Health Centers of South Central Texas originally began discussions for partnership with the district this past spring. The clinic aims to provide school-aged children access to local, timely and affordable healthcare. A decrease in the waiting period for medical attention and absenteeism at VISD schools is a proposed result of the new clinic.
