Weekend events planned to commemorate anniversary of Goliad Massacre

GOLIAD, Texas – Today marks the 189th anniversary of the Goliad Massacre, a tragic event in Texas history that took place on March 27, 1836.

On that day, Col. James Fannin and more than 400 Texan prisoners of war were executed by Mexican forces during the Texas Revolution. Mexican Gen. Antonio López de Santa Anna viewed them as traitors rather than soldiers, leading to the mass execution.
