FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Snow arrives overnight into Sunday followed by bitter cold

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Cloudy skies will be with us for this evening with a few rain showers possible. It will be chilly with temperatures in the 40s. As we head into the overnight, we see those rain showers change over to all snow. Overnight lows will be down into the upper 20s to low 30s.

Periods of snow will be with us Sunday morning as our high temperatures will also be in the morning in the low to mid-30s. This will create hazardous travel and icy roads. By the afternoon, snow will start to lighten up as we see temperatures fall into the 20s. A few snow showers will linger into Sunday evening as we slowly start to clear out by Sunday night. When all is said and done, 2-5 inches of snow is expected for most of the area which includes eastern Kentucky, western West Virginia, and southwestern Virginia. Areas in central and southern Kentucky along with northeastern Tennessee can expect 1-4 inches of snowfall through Sunday night. Bitter cold takes over overnight with lows into the mid to upper single digits and wind chills dipping to 0 to 10 degrees below zero.

Monday will feature a mix of sun and clouds to start the day, as more sunshine arrives into the afternoon. It will be a frigid day as we see highs only in the mid to upper teens with wind chills staying in the single digits. Clouds will increase into Monday evening and overnight which will spare us from even colder temperatures. Lows will be back down into the upper single digits to low teens with wind chills around zero…
