Mike Copeland: Furniture-making honors; Covered pickleball courts; Sykora pancakes; Tangled title funding

Two locals did themselves proud at the Texas Furniture Makers Show that ran through Dec. 13 at the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center in Kerrville.

Blake Loree and Stan Beckworth won in the “Best Traditional Style” category for their Lotus Settee. Loree works out of Blake Loree Fine Woodworking on Gholson Road. His website says his interest in woodworking began as a child, when he followed his grandpa around his workshop. He has been a serious woodworker since 2011, and honed his skills during an “intensive” two-year apprenticeship at the Heritage School of Woodworking, affiliated with the Homestead Heritage community near Waco.
