End Of Game

Washington wraps up their 24-5 win over Northwestern by taking a knee as time runs out. The Huskies thoroughly dominated this game essentially front start to finish with the Huskies rolling up nearly 391 yards while holding the Wildcats to just 112. For the third time this season, their defense held a team to no touchdowns which is the first time that has happened since 1991. Now the team can turn it’s attention to its first road game of the season as they travel to New Jersey to take on Rutgers who is now 3-0 after beating Virginia Tech 26-23 on the road.

14:02 Fourth Quarter: Washington 24, Northwestern 5

Coming out of the quarter changeover, Washington runs three plays, including a key 10-yard completion from Rogers to Hunter to the Northwestern 8 before Coleman plows over to extend the Husky lead. To recap, the Husky drive covered 77 yards in 12 plays and ate up 5:58 of game time.

End Of Third Quarter

Washington continues to lead, but the Wildcats have made some progress after they turned the ball over on the bad snap. The Husky defense continues to play well as they have allowed just 109 yards (54 pass, 55 run) and held the visitors to just 2 of 11 on third down. The Huskies will have the ball at the Northwestern 18 to start the fourth quarter.

05:07 Third Quarter: Washington 17, Northwestern 5

After another bad center/quarterback exchange, the Huskies give the ball back to Northwestern at their own 33. After a couple of first downs, Washington’s defense stiffens and holds to Wildcats to a 19-yard field goal by kicker Jack Olsen.

End Of First Half

Washington ends the half with Gross missing on a 51-yard field goal as time expired. The Huskies dominated things on the stat sheet the first 30 minutes, rolling up 240 yards to just 63 yards for Northwestern. Jack Lausch is just 6 of 14 for 52 yards and he threw and interception as well. It will be interesting to see if head coach David Braun decides to bring in Mike Wright in the second half. For the Huskies, Rogers is 11 of 16 for 158 yards and two scores. Washington has also run the ball for 82 yards against a defense that ranked fifth in the nation allowing just under 58 yards per game on the ground. Jonah Coleman has 38 yards on seven carries while Cameron Davis has 25 tough yards on five totes. Boston leads the team with four receptions for 88 yards and two scores while tight end Keleki Latu has three for 20 yards and wideout Jeremiah Hunter has two for 31. Defensively, the Huskies are led by EDGE Isaiah Ward who has four tackles and a sack. Carson Bruener has three stops and an interception while Voi Tunuufi has three tackles. Sebastian Valdez also has three tackles on the evening. The Wildcats are led by LB Xander Mueller and DBs Devin Turner and Josh Fussell who each have four tackles.

06:38 Second Quarter: Washington 17, Northwestern 2

On their fifth drive, the Wildcats are able to mount their first extended drive, but they stalled at the Husky 46. After a good punt that Boston fair caught at the five, Rogers is forced to throw the ball away and since he was in the end zone and was not outside the pocket, he was called for grounding, resulting in a safety for the Wildcats.

10:12 Second Quarter: Washington 17, Northwestern 0

The Huskies hold the Wildcats to yet another three-and-out, their third in four drives, and set the offense up with great field position as Boston returns a poor punt 25 yards to the Northwestern 31. Four plays later, Rogers hit Boston for a 13-yard touchdown to give the Huskies a 17-0 lead. On the play, Rogers threw it high and allowed Boston to go up and get the ball in between to smaller defenders.

14:11 Second Quarter: Washington 10, Northwestern 0

Washington ends up stalling as Rogers and Giles Jackson are not able to connect on third down and wind up settling for a 21-yard field goal from Grady Gross. Washington’s drive covered 88 yards in 11 plays and took 5:36 off the clock to give the Huskies a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter.

End Of First Quarter

To say Washington dominated the first quarter would be an understatement. The Huskies amassed 156 yards in the first 15 minutes to just 25 for Northwestern and just three of those yards have come through the air. Rogers hit on 6 of his 8 attempts for 110 yards with a 46-yard touchdown pass to Boston. For his part, Boston has three receptions for 75 yards and a score. Defensively, the Huskies have eight players tied with one stop apiece. Theran Johnson leads the way for the Wildcats on defense with three stops with five other players tied with two tackles each. Washington ended the first quarter with the ball on the Northwestern seven and face a 2nd-and-6 to start the second half.

07:57 First Quarter: Washington 7, Northwestern 0

On the first three drives, the Huskies held the Wildcats to a three-and-out and Northwestern’s defense held Washington to their own three-and-out. On the home team’s second possession though, Will Rogers caught fire, hitting on three of his five attempts for 68 yards including a 46-yard touchdown to wideout Denzel Boston on a post-route for the first score of the game.

Pregame

After years as a member of the Pacific Coast Conference, Pac 8, Pac 10 and Pac 12, Washington begins it’s membership in the Big Ten by hosting Northwestern in their first conference game of their tenure on the conference. Washington is locking its wounds after suffering a 24-19 loss to cross-state rival Washington State in the 116th Apple Cup last week.

The Huskies will look to QB Will Rogers and the Husky running game, led by Jonah Coleman and Cameron Davis, to get the team back on track after struggling on offense at times during last week’s game.

Making things tough will be the fact that Northwestern, who is led by LB Xander Mueller, currently ranks fifth in the nation in rush defense, allowing just 57 yards per game on the ground…
