Trial underway for convicted killer accused of another homicide in 2020

Trial is underway in Wayne County for a Detroiter accused of fatally shooting a Farmington Hills man in Dearborn four years ago.

The alleged killer, Robert Lee Bailey, Jr., 53, has a prior conviction for second-degree murder and was on parole at the time of the Farmington Hills man’s slaying.

Bailey is charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and four counts of second-degree felony firearm in connection with the death of Darius Whiting. Prosecutors allege Whiting was killed on Sept. 22, 2020 during an armed robbery in Dearborn.

Officers dispatched that afternoon to an alley on Schlaff Street, near Michigan Avenue and Schaefer Road, found Whiting’s body in a car. It was subsequently determined Whiting died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. He was 49 years old…
