Complaint filed after altered sample ballots handed out at Portsmouth polling site

A complaint has been filed with the Rhode Island Secretary of State and the Portsmouth Canvassing Department is looking into reports of a group giving out altered sample ballots outside a Portsmouth polling location leading to concerns that they were being used to mislead or confuse voters.

“I went to the polling location and asked them to stop it and they did,” Registrar of Voters Jacqueline Schulz said. “It was upsetting voters and that’s the point. When I get information about voters getting upset, I address it. ”

Anthony D’Ellena, a field organizer with the RIGOP who is working on Senate candidate Patricia Morgan ‘s campaign, said that multiple voters in Portsmouth “reported being handed official Rhode Island ballots that appear tampered with to influence voter choice. These ballots already have the Democrat candidates pre-selected, while Republican candidates’ names are whited out.”…
