Freedom Pier Celebrated with First Casts

INDEPENDENCE – Similar to an official First Pitch in baseball, organizers of the Freedom Pier invited the supporters and community members to celebrate an official First Cast into Triangle Pond on Friday, October 25.

The $45,000 project began in 2023.

“Last year, during a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) meeting, local veterans were discussing the difficulty of engaging in activities as folks get older,” said George Lake, committee member. “Fishing was one of the activities discussed and the need for a handicapped accessible fishing pier was identified. VFW members agreed that it would be worthwhile to pursue the possibility of establishing such a pier on city-owned Triangle Pond.”…
