The Oelwein Fire Department was kept busy Tuesday evening after multiple reports were filed into dispatch between the hours of 4-10 p.m.
A gas leak was first reported at around 4:26 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the 100 block of 5th Avenue NW after the reporting party smelled gas in the basement. Oelwein dispatch put out a second call at 5:17 p.m. from a reporting party in the area of 6th Ave. SE following Alliant Energy odorizing gas lines in an attempt to find the source. More calls were expected due to odorization.
A third call came in with another natural gas report in the 200 block of 4th Street NE. The reporting party stated they were gone from the home all night but upon arrival noticed a strong smell of natural gas and evacuated…
