Opinion: Immigrants must not be made scapegoats for other challenges

I want to address what has sadly become a central issue in this year’s political discussion: immigration.

It is perhaps a characteristic of human nature — and certainly a feature of human history — that when faced with challenging problems and commonfears societies identify scapegoats and then pretend that by eliminating those scapegoats we can magically solve our problems and allay our fears…
