Crowds flock to wholesale stores amid dockworkers strike

UNION, N.J. (PIX11) — The dockworkers’ strike is on its second day, with no update on a deal. Ports from Maine to Texas are shut down, as workers picket for better wages and protections against automation.

Despite Governor Kathy Hochul’s Monday warning to not stockpile supplies, membership stores like Costco and BJ’s have been flooded with customers.

“I’ve been coming here, I guess, a quarter of a century already, and I’ve never seen it this busy on this particular day,” said Bob Baker, who went to the Costco in Union, New Jersey, to stock up.
