East Wenatchee launches pre-approved ADU program to boost affordable housing options

EAST WENATCHEE — The City of East Wenatchee has launched a new Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Program to simplify the process for residents building additional living spaces on their properties. The initiative, developed in partnership with the City of Wenatchee, offers 15 pre-approved ADU designs ranging from 400 to 1,200 square feet.

The program, supported by a dedicated website, addresses the increasing demand for affordable housing options in the area. By providing pre-approved plans, the city reduces the time and costs typically associated with designing and permitting ADUs, commonly known as backyard cottages or in-law units.

Curtis Lillquist, Community Development Director, underscored the program’s importance, stating, “We’re excited to provide our community with tools to make it easier to create affordable, flexible housing options. These pre-approved ADU plans help reduce barriers for homeowners who want to add an ADU, whether to accommodate family members, provide rental housing, or create extra space for personal needs.”…
