Quincy fire chief to retire after 36-year career

QUINCY — The fire agency serving the city of Quincy will lose its longtime chief this year.

Chief Anthony Leibelt will step down after 36 years serving the community at Grant County Fire District 3. His agency responds to emergencies in Quincy as well as Crescent Bar, Winchester, George and other rural communities.

Leibelt joined the department in 1988. Among many other incidents, he and his wife Carol were instrumental in responding to the terrifying rollover crash of a bus carrying the University of Washington marching band on Thanksgiving 2018.
