HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Scammers are stealing money meant to help Connecticut families buy food. There was a program in place to help victims, but starting December 20th, the program officially ended, leaving families with nowhere to turn.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, is a federal program that’s administered by individual states. Each month money is loaded on what’s called an EBT card which works like a debit card. Qualifying families can then use that card to buy food.
Linda Rosado from New Britain checked her card’s balance one day this summer to discover almost $200 was missing. She then had no money for groceries that month…
