South Jordan Commuters Alert: 9800 South at Bangerter Highway 10-Month Closure Begins Tonight

Travelers in South Jordan should plan for detours this weekend as the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) initiates a 10-month closure of 9800 South at Bangerter Highway starting tonight. According to UDOT, the shutdown begins at 10 p.m. on Friday, December 20, and is part of the ongoing effort to revamp the intersection into a freeway-style interchange with aims to streamline traffic flows and reduce congestion in the bustling area.

During the construction period, commuters will not have the usual thoroughfare at the intersection, east and westbound traffic on 9800 South will be unable to proceed straight through, but right turns onto Bangerter Highway will remain accessible, lane shifts and closures may create significant alterations in daily routes and it is encouraged that drivers seek alternative paths or prepare for potential delays in their commutes.

This redevelopment is one of the final pieces of a larger initiative dubbed the Bangerter South projects, which also includes transformations at 2700 West, 13400 South, and 4700 South, each progressing toward a planned completion in November 2025.
