19-year-old gets life in prison for role in deadly shooting of Ohio grandmother

A 19-year-old Columbus man was sentenced to prison on Monday after pleading guilty to the murder of an Ohio grandmother.

Denzell Reed pleaded guilty to murder, unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance, and having weapons while under disability on Monday. The charges were in connection to his involvement in the November 2023 shooting death of Marvita McCaskill, 63, our news partners at WBNS reported.

McCaskill left her granddaughter’s birthday party last year when Reed and another person pulled a gun on her outside of an apartment and demanded her car keys. WBNS reported that she was shot multiple times with an AR-style gun after she refused to hand them over and yelled for help.

Reed was sentenced to life in prison. He has the possibility of parole after 23 years…
