Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola among freshmen poised to break major records in 2024

Program record books are about to be re-written.

Scouts touted the 2024 recruiting class as one of the best in recent memory, and it’s delivered through the first four weeks of the college football season. A handful of true freshmen, highlighted by Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and Nebraska Dylan Raiola, are on pace to break freshman and all-time program records by the end of the season.

The 2024 college football season has been the year of the receiver. Smith Alabama’s Ryan Williams headlines four true freshmen wide receivers that have crossed 200 yards receiving through Week 4, up from two in 2023. Both Smith and Williams are on pace for 1,000 receiving yards this season. A true freshman wideout hasn’t hit the 1,000-yard benchmark in the Power Four in over a decade.

Playmakers from Miami, South Carolina, Florida, Clemson, Texas and Iowa also made this list. Freshman numbers could dip as the strength of schedules gets harder as teams enter conference play, but these players have played as well as fans could have hoped through Week 4…
