WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A house fire in Derby on Christmas left a man and his cat dead and forced a neighboring couple to evacuate while crews put out the flames.
A man walking his dog called to report the fire just before 11 p.m. at a duplex in the 700 block of East Meadowlark Place, according to the Derby Fire Department.
Gary Huffman and his wife live in the duplex and said they didn’t know there was a fire just feet away from where they were sleeping. It wasn’t until the man with his dog knocked on his door and told them to get out that they realized they were in danger…
