Some of Joseph Matteo’s fondest memories are from visits that former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, made to the Wyoming Valley.
The Carters were overnight guests in his 1870-vintage Victorian home, the Frederick Stegmaier Mansion on South Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre, which he had converted into a bed and breakfast, in 2011 and 2013.
