On a Fike High varsity boys basketball team full of offensive weapons, senior Brayden Jones emerged as the biggest one Tuesday, Jan. 7, as the Golden Demons crushed visiting 3-A Quad County Conference foe Smithfield-Selma 87-41.
The 5-foot-9 senior guard drained seven 3-pointers on his way to a season-high 27 points as Fike, now 9-2 overall, remained unbeaten through three QCC games. The Demons will host C.B. Aycock in a battle for first place Thursday night in a game moved from Friday in case of wintry weather.
Jones got a hand from senior William Monk as Fike piled up a season-high 40 points in the first quarter. Monk bucketed 14 of his 18 points in the opening period while Jones scored 11 on his way to 20 by halftime.
Senior Kam Barbee added eight points for Fike, playing for the first time since the Eastern Carolina Classic championship game Dec. 28.
