George Jenkins head wrestling coach Gavin Osborn and his wrestlers were confident heading into the Class 3A, Region 2 tournament because they accomplished numerous firsts in 2025.
The program beat Manatee High School for the first time in Osborn’s stint, went undefeated in the Polk County duals, just last week was top dog at the Class 3A, District 5 tournament, advanced to the regional championship for the first time ever, and on Friday night, the Eagles clinched the regional championship for the first time in school history thanks to beating Palmetto High School 37-36 Friday night at Osceola High School.
“…They bought into that ‘why not?’ process, and that’s really cool,” Osborn said. … “We’re ranked top four in the state, and I couldn’t be more proud of them. … This year was special. And I allude back to that ‘why not us?’ mentality. Just because we’ve never did this doesn’t mean that we can’t. … Super excited and super happy for the kids, and the parents and the fans who support. It’s not just us coaches putting in a lot of time, effort, money and resources. It’s the kids and the parents. It’s an overall effort.”…
