One Dad’s Mission: Raise $5M for Ronald McDonald House Charities with cross-country bike ride

AKRON , Ohio (WJW) – How far would you go for your sick child? What about for others? For one Pennsylvania father, the answer is across the country.

Jeff Bekos is a grateful, 65-year-old avid cyclist from Doylestown, Pennsylvania , about an hour outside of Philadelphia. He’s grateful because his then-perfectly healthy daughter survived a life-threatening health scare as a teen.

“It was about 10 years ago where we left the Philadelphia house where we lived for 254 days as our then 13-year-old daughter Hailey was fighting for her life,” Bekos said. “It was horrible. Our lives collapsed in 15 seconds one morning where she stopped talking. She had a seizure which led to more seizures and then her brain basically shutting down.”

Hailey was suffering from a rare auto-immune disease that disconnected the receptors in her brain. Jeff also lost his job right as all this was happening. Thankfully, the family was able to lean on the Ronald McDonald House of Philadelphia during the period of extreme uncertainty…
