New York City’s cold snap with plunging temperatures has been good news for the city’s rat catchers.
The city’s notorious oversized rats usually found gorging on piles of garbage are noticeably less active as the mercury plunges to below freezing during a January Arctic blast. However, the cold weather boosts efforts to catch and dispose of the rodents, according to catcher Kathleen Corradi.
She said: “It’s stressing out rats. It’s putting them in their burrows. So we kind of get to double down now while the rats are ‘feeling the heat’ from this cold snap. ” According to experts, the rats become stressed when their food sources tend to shrivel up as less people are on the streets during icy temperatures, meaning less rubbish for them to scurry through, reports the Independent .
