NEW YORK — Thousands gathered at Central Park’s Great Lawn on Saturday for the annual Global Citizen Festival.
The Global Citizen Festival is an annual music festival held by the organization Global Citizen, which calls for an end to extreme poverty, defending the planet and demanding equitable access to nutritious food. It coincides with the U.N. General Assembly . Those who want to attend the festival are able to get free tickets by taking actions such as signing petitions, calling local politicians, participating in challenges and more.
Despite rainy conditions throughout the day , Global Citizen and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation released a statement early Saturday afternoon saying in part, “We have determined it is safe to move forward based on the current weather predictions, and have approved the use of the Great Lawn for the 12th year … We are looking forward to a safe and wonderful experience today, rain or shine.”…
