Man charged after dog surrendered with large mass

LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio (WKBN) — A Leavittsburg man is facing a criminal charge after a dog was surrendered with a large mass hanging from its neck.

Rick Mason is charged with misdemeanor prohibitions concerning companion animals. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Warren Municipal Court.

The charge stems from an incident Friday where Jason Cooke with the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project called Warren Township police after the dog was surrendered to a concerned neighbor. According to a police report, Mason told officers someone dropped the dog off about a year ago…
