Oil, gas drilling project may come to local wildlife area

COLUMBIANA CO., Ohio (WKBN) — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is accepting comments on a proposed oil and gas project beneath Zepernick Wildlife Area.

The wildlife area is 521 acres, located 2 miles west of New Garden. The proposed project is for horizontal drilling from off-site, meaning all drilling infrastructure development will occur outside the wildlife area’s boundaries.

This public comment period is a federal requirement per the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for wildlife areas acquired with federal funds. Comments will be accepted until Feb. 13…
