11 Injured in Syracuse House Collapse

Additional Coverage:

In Syracuse, New York, a catastrophic incident occurred on Tuesday when a house collapsed, resulting in injuries to at least 11 individuals, according to authorities.

The Syracuse Fire Department rushed to the scene following several emergency calls reporting a possible explosion at a two-story residence shortly after 4 p.m., Fire Chief Michael Monds explained during a press briefing.

Upon their arrival, first responders discovered numerous victims in the front yard and were also tasked with extracting a young individual from a vehicle that was entangled in debris, Chief Monds detailed.

Of those injured, a group comprising both minors and adults were transported to Upstate University Hospital, with two victims facing particularly critical conditions. The Fire Department later confirmed that all 13 occupants of the household were accounted for, as reported by The Post-Standard.

The cause of the tragic collapse is under investigation by both police and fire authorities. The house, originally built in 1920, presented additional hazards at the site, including fallen power lines and a strong smell of natural gas, Monds highlighted.

More than 50 firefighters were dispatched to address the situation, facing the challenge of working under the sweltering heat that affected Syracuse and various other regions on Tuesday, as noted by Monds.
