Tragic Incident in Duluth
Five individuals were found deceased in two separate residences in Duluth, Minnesota, on Thursday afternoon. The incident appears to be a quadruple murder-suicide.
Initial Discovery
Police responded to a welfare check at a home on Tacony Street, where they found Erin Abramson, 47, and her son, Jacob Nephew, 15, fatally shot.
Suspect and Second Location
Police identified Anthony Nephew, 46, as a suspect and established surveillance at his nearby residence. Using drones, officers entered the home and discovered two more victims: Kathryn Nephew, 45, and her son, Oliver Nephew, 7.
Self-Inflicted Fatality
Anthony Nephew was also found deceased in the second home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was married to Kathryn and the father of Oliver. He had previously been in a relationship with Erin Abramson, and Jacob was their son.
Mental Health Concerns
According to Chief Mike Ceynowa, the investigation has revealed a history of mental health issues with Anthony Nephew.
No Ongoing Threat
Police have ruled out any ongoing threat to the Duluth community.
Community Condolences
Chief Ceynowa expressed condolences to the families and victims, as well as the Duluth and Superior communities, calling the event senseless and tragic.
