Steve Bannon Faces Judge Over Lawyer Change

Steve Bannon, who served as an advisor to former President Donald Trump, must appear in court next week to explain why he switched lawyers shortly before his scheduled trial.

Bannon is charged with defrauding donors who contributed to an online fundraising campaign called “We Build the Wall.” The trial is set to begin on February 25.

Bannon’s new attorney, Arthur Aidala, has requested a delay in the trial to allow him to familiarize himself with the case. However, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office has accused Bannon of attempting to delay the proceedings.

The judge has ordered Bannon to appear in court to discuss the lawyer change and will decide whether to grant the delay.

Trial Delays and Charges

Bannon’s trial has been repeatedly postponed. The original trial date was scheduled for 2023.

If the trial proceeds, prosecutors will request an anonymous jury.

Bannon faces a six-count indictment that includes charges of money laundering, conspiracy, and scheme to defraud. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
