Bond Set at $1M for Texas Woman in Alleged Hate Crime Drowning Attempt

Additional Coverage:

In Euless, Texas, a woman has been taken into custody again after a judge increased her bond to $1 million. Elizabeth Wolf, 42, faces charges of attempted capital murder and injury to a child. Allegations against her claim she tried to drown a 3-year-old at a Dallas-area apartment pool on May 19 after making racist comments to the child’s mother, including doubting her American identity.

Originally released on a $40,000 bond, Wolf was rearrested following a court hearing that revised her bond amount. The incident, which occurred while Wolf was reportedly heavily intoxicated, involved a confrontation where she attempted to pull the 3-year-old under water. The child’s mother intervened, rescuing her daughter who was crying out for help and expelling water.

The mother, a Palestinian American who wears a hijab, has expressed that her family was targeted due to their background, as reported by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). The organization has voiced its approval of the rearrest and reaffirmed its commitment to support the victim’s family and pursue justice.

Currently, Wolf is being held in Fort Worth, according to Tarrant County’s records. Efforts to reach her lawyer for comment have been unsuccessful.

The local police have recommended treating this case as a hate crime, and the district attorney’s office is considering the proposal. Both children involved in the incident were examined and found to be medically sound after the ordeal.
