Amidst the devastation of the Eaton Fire, residents in Altadena, California, rallied together to protect their homes.
Ivan Perez, a local resident, described the neighborhood’s spirit of unity. “We’re looking out for each other, doing everything we can to stay safe.”
Despite the intense flames and smoke, neighbors used garden hoses, fire extinguishers, and pots to pour water on houses, preventing further destruction.
On Holliston Avenue, residents filled trash cans with water and extinguished fires, containing the blaze. In Hollywood, neighbors climbed onto a roof to extinguish embers on a palm tree, saving a nearby home.
Anthony Eichner Alvarez, one of the community members who assisted, said, “We didn’t have protective gear, but we couldn’t just stand by and let our homes burn.”
With the help of firefighters, the group managed to partially extinguish the palm tree fire. Alvarez noted the importance of community support during such a crisis. “Differences don’t matter when it comes to protecting each other.”
