Mexican Navy Seizes Massive Cocaine Shipment in “Narco Sub”
The Mexican Navy has seized 3.6 tons of cocaine from a semi-submersible vessel, known as a “narco sub,” off the Pacific coast. The vessel was spotted approximately 153 miles off the resort city of Acapulco.
Crew Detained, Details Released
Navy vessels intercepted the boat, which was carrying 102 packages of cocaine bricks. Nine crew members were detained, including six foreign nationals. The nationalities of the foreigners were not specified, but many boats found off Mexico have Colombian or Venezuelan crew members.
Drug Seizure Record Broken
This seizure is the latest in a series of successful drug interdictions by the Mexican Navy. Just weeks ago, the Navy seized over 8.3 tons of drugs in a single operation at sea, setting a record. The current administration has seized more than 15,000 kilograms of alleged drugs at sea.

Cocaine is primarily produced in South America and transported through the Pacific or Caribbean to reach the US market. The semi-submersibles used by drug traffickers can evade detection due to their low profile.
