Giuliani Held in Civil Contempt Again
Rudy Giuliani, former lawyer for President-elect Trump, has been found in civil contempt for the second time in a week for defamation. Giuliani had been ordered to stop defaming two Georgia election workers but continued to do so.
U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell threatened Giuliani with jail if he fails to comply with court orders. Howell also required Giuliani to submit a document acknowledging that his statements contradicted evidence presented in his 2023 trial.
Giuliani has been ordered to pay a $200 daily fine for not filing the document.
Previously, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman found Giuliani in contempt for failing to turn over valuables to the election workers. Giuliani had been ordered to hand over assets like a Mercedes Benz, an apartment, and a Joe DiMaggio jersey to help settle his $148 million debt.
Giuliani has attacked Judge Howell on social media, calling her “bloodthirsty” and accusing her of bias. He has also referred to the hearing as a “farce.”
The election workers sued Giuliani for accusing them of stuffing ballot boxes. They testified that they were passing out ginger mints, not USB ports as Giuliani claimed.
Despite the judgment against him, Giuliani has not provided the election workers with any money. He has also continued to defame them on his podcast.
Giuliani has faced numerous legal challenges since his role in Trump’s election challenges. He is facing criminal charges of election interference in Arizona and Georgia and has been disbarred in New York and Washington.
