Ann Wilson, iconic lead vocalist of the rock band Heart, has revealed her cancer diagnosis. The 74-year-old shared on Instagram that she recently had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, which was successful. Following her doctors’ recommendations, Wilson will undergo preventative chemotherapy and has decided to step away from performing for the remainder of the year to focus on her recovery.

As a result, Heart has canceled their upcoming “Royal Flush” tour, originally scheduled to hit 48 cities in the U.S. and Canada this fall. This comes after the cancellation of their UK and European tours earlier this year due to Wilson’s medical procedures.

Wilson expressed optimism about her return, planning to be back on stage by 2025. She emphasized that her break from performing is only temporary, promising fans that she has “much more to sing.”

Since joining Heart in the mid-1970s with her sister Nancy, Ann Wilson has been a vital presence in the band, known for her dynamic and versatile vocal ability. Heart’s debut album launched in 1975 and climbed into the US Top 10, but their peak came in the late 1980s with hits like “These Dreams” and “Alone,” their biggest single in the UK.

Heart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2023, the Wilson sisters received a lifetime achievement Grammy award. Ann Wilson has also spoken out about the challenges and sexism they faced in the male-dominated rock industry during the 1970s, emphasizing the hyper-sexualization of women at the time.
