Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, has begun serving a jail sentence for a DWI conviction.
Mahomes Sr. was booked into the Smith County Jail on Tuesday afternoon. He is expected to remain in custody until Halloween.
The jail sentence was part of a plea agreement reached with prosecutors following Mahomes Sr.’s arrest for drunk driving in February.
Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to DWI third or more and was sentenced to five years of probation in addition to the jail sentence.
Body camera footage from the night of his arrest showed Mahomes Sr. attempting to avoid charges by mentioning his son’s upcoming Super Bowl appearance.
Mahomes Sr. has since stated that he has given up drinking following his arrest.
