Massachusetts Man Missing During South Carolina Vacation

Additional Coverage:

A man from Massachusetts, Stanley Kotowski, age 60, has been reported missing while on a family trip in South Carolina since last Friday. Authorities consider him to be at risk. According to reports from his family, Kotowski was last observed departing from their vacation home on Hilton Head Island early Friday morning, without his shoes or any personal belongings like his phone or wallet, as stated by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

A still image captured from a Ring camera showing Kotowski in the attire he wore before he disappeared was released by the sheriff’s office. The family disclosed to WJCL, an ABC affiliate in Savannah, Georgia, that Kotowski has been experiencing severe anxiety issues, which had recently exacerbated, leading to paranoia and insomnia. Despite his mental health challenges, his son Zak Kotowski described him as physically robust and capable.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, which reported Kotowski missing a couple of hours post his last sighting, describes him as endangered due to his mental condition and the duration he has been missing. Extensive search operations have been underway, involving K9 units, helicopters, drones, boats, and foot patrols, though none of the leads have yet yielded results, according to Master Sergeant Daniel Allen of the sheriff’s office.

Detailed descriptions of Kotowski include a height of 6 feet, a weight of around 200 pounds, with short brown hair, brown eyes, and a distinct Boston accent. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a gray Coors Light T-shirt and dark shorts. The sheriff’s office is urging the public to assist by checking their surveillance footage and properties for any sign of Kotowski, and to reach out with any information at 843-524-2777.

Jackie Kotowski, his wife, expressed the family’s determination not to leave Hilton Head Island until they find him, appealing for public assistance in locating him. Zak Kotowski also made an emotional plea to his father, expressing love and the family’s desire for his safe return.
