McConnell Absent from Capitol After Fall

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 82, was absent from the Capitol on Thursday due to leg stiffness following a fall at a luncheon two days prior.

McConnell attended work on Wednesday but stayed home on Thursday due to his injury. He was seen returning to his office with a cut on his face after the fall.

Last year, concerns arose about McConnell’s health after he experienced two “freezing” episodes in a short period. A congressional doctor attributed these to lightheadedness, potentially from a concussion.

Despite these episodes, no senators called for McConnell’s resignation. He plans to complete his term as minority leader through the end of this year and his Senate term through 2026.

McConnell has announced his retirement as Republican leader for the next Congress, ending his 17-year run in the role. John Thune was elected majority leader last month.
