Savannah Mother Charged with Murder of Toddler Son

A Savannah mother, Leilani Simon, is on trial for the murder of her 20-month-old son, Quinton Simon.

Simon reported her son missing in October 2022, but police later determined he was dead and named her as the suspect.

Prosecutors claim Simon was experiencing personal turmoil at the time, including a strained relationship with her boyfriend and drug abuse.

They allege that on the night of her son’s disappearance, Simon killed him and disposed of his body in a trash bin.

Defense attorneys deny the charges, claiming the prosecution’s case is based on speculation.

Opening statements in the trial began on Monday, with the prosecution presenting evidence of Simon’s changing story and drug use.

The trial continues on Tuesday with testimony from witnesses, including police officers and the child’s babysitter.
