Ahead of the presidential inauguration, thousands of National Guard members from across the country have arrived in Washington, D.C. to bolster security. General John Andonie, commanding the D.C. National Guard, expressed confidence in their readiness, acknowledging lessons learned from past events.

The Guard’s plan remains intact despite last-minute adjustments to the inauguration location. They will provide law enforcement support, including perimeter security and reserves for potential contingencies.

Andonie emphasized that their primary mission is security, but they will also assist with logistics and communication for other law enforcement agencies.

Regarding the potential use of the Guard for mass deportations, Andonie clarified that such a request would follow a process involving the Secretary of Defense. The Guard would act upon orders from civilian leaders if such a request were made.

Private First Class Connor Kalbach also expressed his pride in being part of the Guard and serving his country during this historic event.
