Edgar Welch, who made headlines in 2016 for firing an assault rifle in a Washington, D.C. restaurant during a bizarre “pizzagate” investigation, has been killed by police in North Carolina.
During a traffic stop on January 4th, Welch was recognized as a wanted suspect. As officers moved to arrest him, he pulled a handgun and pointed it at an officer. Two officers fired their weapons, and Welch was fatally wounded.
Welch’s death comes after his arrest and subsequent guilty plea in connection with the “pizzagate” incident. He fired an AR-15 rifle inside the Comet Ping Pong restaurant, motivated by a false conspiracy theory that it was a hub for a child sex ring.
Welch’s actions and the subsequent investigation highlighted the dangers of misinformation and the spread of false narratives.
