North Korea vows unlimited nuclear growth

Additional Coverage:

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for the country’s nuclear arsenal to be strengthened “without limit.” He claims that the United States and its allies are escalating military tensions in the region and worldwide.

Kim made his remarks at a conference of military commanders. He said that North Korea’s nuclear force must become fully operational to deter war. He also accused the United States and South Korea of forming an “Asian version of NATO” that is increasing tensions.

Kim’s speech comes after the leaders of the United States, South Korea, and Japan met and announced a new secretariat for trilateral cooperation. They condemned North Korea’s deployment of troops to Russia for combat in Ukraine.

The United States has confirmed that North Korea has sent about 10,000 troops to Russia to fight in Ukraine. North Korea has also recently ratified a defense pact with Russia.

Kim slammed the United States for supporting Ukraine, accusing it of using Ukrainian forces to expand its military influence globally. He warned that the international security situation is becoming increasingly dangerous and raised fears of a World War III.
